What to know about 86-inch TVs
An 86-inch TV is essentially an 85 from brands that measure a slightly different panel, but on our price list it’s the first size in the largest tier: $184, with two technicians. That reflects the reality of the job. The TV is about 75 inches wide and commonly over 100 pounds; one person cannot hang it safely, and the wall plate should cross three studs where the framing allows.
Walls that look flat often aren’t over a six-foot span. We check for bow and shim the bracket so the screen doesn’t rock. If the TV will hang on a full-motion arm, the mount’s weight rating needs real margin — extended, a hundred-pound screen puts a very large pull on the top bolts.
Typical rooms for this size: great rooms, basements, game rooms and covered porches with outdoor-rated sets.
