What to know about 40-inch TVs
The 40-inch class sits in an awkward gap in today’s ranges — manufacturers jump from 32 to 43 — so most 40s on walls are a few years old or are budget 1080p models. They make excellent second-room screens: light, inexpensive and big enough for a guest room or an office wall.
At about 35 inches wide, a 40 fits between two studs with room to spare, so the bracket normally catches just one. A single-stud tilt or full-motion mount is ideal. If the TV is replacing an older, heavier set on an existing bracket, the old mount almost certainly still fits.
Typical rooms for this size: bedrooms, home offices, guest rooms and kitchens.
