A floating shelf for the boxes that need a home

Once the TV is on the wall, the cable box, streaming stick, router or game console still need somewhere to live — ideally close enough for short cables and for the remote to reach. A floating shelf just under the TV does that without bringing back a bulky console table.

We mount the shelf into studs, level it with the TV, and route the cables from the shelf to the TV as tidily as the wall allows. It's $39 as an add-on to your mounting visit.

What's included

  • Shelf mounted into studs and leveled with the TV
  • Spacing planned so devices get airflow and the remote can reach them
  • Short cable runs between shelf and TV

How we do it

  1. Pick the gap

Usually 6–10″ under the TV — enough room for the devices you stack.

  2. Find studs

A shelf holding a console and router needs real anchoring.

  3. Mount and level

Matched to the TV line, not the floor, so it looks right.

  4. Cable it

Through the wall plate if you have in-wall wiring, or under a cover.

Questions about floating shelf for your devices

Do I supply the shelf?

You can, or ask when booking and we'll bring a simple glass or wood shelf rated for devices.

Will a game console overheat on a shelf?

Not if it has open space around the vents. We leave clearance and avoid stacking hot devices.

Can the shelf go over a fireplace?

Usually the mantel already does that job — we'll suggest what works with your fireplace.

What about the router and Wi-Fi?

A router works fine on the shelf, but metal brackets and the TV itself can block a little signal. Keep it at the front edge of the shelf, not tucked behind the screen, and away from the soundbar.
