How long does TV mounting take?

Updated October 3, 2026 · TV Mounting Auburn AL

For a typical job — one TV, drywall over wood studs, a bracket ready to go — plan on about an hour from the knock on the door to the remote in your hand. Other walls and options add to that in fairly predictable ways.

Where the hour goes

Step Typical time
Walk-through: wall, height, wire plan 5–10 min
Find and confirm studs, mark, level 10 min
Drill and bolt the bracket 10 min
Attach arms to the TV, hang it 10 min
Connect devices, tidy cables, test inputs 10–15 min
Clean up 5 min

What adds time

  • Brick, block or concrete: hammer-drilling and setting anchors adds roughly 20–30 minutes.
  • Tile: slow drilling with diamond bits; add 20–40 minutes.
  • Over a fireplace: checking the chase, heat and height; add 15–30 minutes, more on stone.
  • In-wall wire concealment: cutting in two boxes and fishing cable adds 30–60 minutes on a clear interior wall, more with insulation or fire blocks.
  • Cord cover: 10–20 minutes.
  • Full-motion mounts: heavier and more adjustment; add 10–20 minutes.
  • Screens 75 inches and up: two-person lifts and wider brackets; add 15–30 minutes.
  • Soundbar or shelf: 15–25 minutes each.
  • Taking down an old TV and bracket: 10–20 minutes.
  • Each additional TV: usually faster than the first, since tools are out and the walls are known.

So a 75-inch TV over a brick fireplace with a soundbar is closer to two to two and a half hours than one.

Surprises that add time

Metal studs where wood was expected, plaster under paint, a stud exactly where the outlet box needs to go, or a wall that turns out to hide a pipe. We pause, show you and agree on a plan — see our note on unexpected walls in the cost guide.

How to keep it short

  • Clear the area: move furniture a few feet from the wall and take fragile things off the console.
  • Unbox the TV or leave it boxed near the wall — either is fine, just have it in the room.
  • Have the bracket's hardware bag and the TV's manual if you're supplying the mount.
  • Know the Wi-Fi password and have remotes and batteries handy.
  • Decide the height beforehand — tape a paper outline on the wall and live with it for a day.
  • Secure pets and plan for 10 minutes of drilling noise.

Arrival windows

You choose a two-hour arrival window when booking, and we text when the technician is on the way. The window is when we arrive, not how long the job takes.

DIY timing

Doing it yourself for the first time, allow two to three hours for a simple wall, mostly spent measuring and double-checking. That's normal; rushing is how holes end up in the wrong place.

Can you watch TV right after?

Yes. Nothing needs to cure or set. Masonry anchors and lag bolts hold at full strength immediately.

Standard labor is $114 for 43–65″ screens; the exact total for your wall and options shows before you book.
